Foodservice Worker Training

Nicholas County Health Department offers both classroom-based and online foodservice worker training options.  Online services are provided in collaboration with StateFoodSafety.com.  Online courses are provided in English, Español中文한국어Tiếng ViệtTagalogSrpsko-hrvatski, and American Sign Language.

The Nicholas County Foodservice Worker Regulation (pamphlet copy) requires that all individuals working with unpackaged food, food equipment or utensils, or food contact surfaces successfully complete a foodservice worker training course approved by Nicholas County Health Department.  W.Va. Code § 16-2-16 allows foodservice workers thirty days from the date of hire to obtain the required training.  Any foodservice worker failing to obtain training within this timeframe shall be prohibited from performing certain duties within a food establishment.  Food establishments are responsible for ensuring employees have obtained approved training as required.  Non-profit organizations offering food on an irregular basis are exempt from training requirements; although, training is highly recommended for the safety of consumers.

Nicholas County Health Department charges a $10 fee for foodservice worker training.  Additional fees may apply to online courses.  Classroom-based training is provided monthly at the Nicholas County Health Department conference room.  Please call to check class availability and to reserve seating.
