Nicholas County, WV – The Nicholas County Health Department (NCHD) is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded a significant grant from the West Virginia First Foundation to initiate the Integrated Community Engagement (ICE) Collaborative in Nicholas County. This program, originally developed in Iceland, aims to prevent substance use among young people by providing them with access to engaging activities such as outdoor adventures, art, and music.
Dr. Anita Stewart, Nicholas County Health Officer, expressed her excitement about the grant: “We are incredibly grateful for the support from the West Virginia First Foundation. The ICE Collaborative has shown great success in other counties, significantly reducing substance use among youth. We are eager to bring this program to Nicholas County and make a positive impact on our community.” With this grant, the Health Department is committed to advancing its mission of enhancing community health through engagement, education, and prevention.
To ensure the success of the ICE Collaborative, NCHD will be seeking to fill a new position dedicated to managing the program. This role will involve working closely with schools, community leaders, and young people to develop and implement engaging activities that promote healthy, substance-free lifestyles.
