Nicholas County Health Department is a small business in Summersville, WV. We are professional, agile and our goal is to offer a comprehensive approach to public health, covering prevention, protection, and promotion of health through integrated state, county, and community efforts.
Project Coordinator: Support the local prevention coalition (and/or task force’s) activities and oversee meeting all project requirements. Facilitate school-based survey completion at all Nicholas County middle and high schools each fall, including managing all pre-survey communication, helping schools administer surveys, and ensuring a student response rate of 80% or better.
- Coordinate and conduct two annual local meetings presenting Iceland Model [ICE] findings and reports (meeting 1) and facilitating community goal-setting (meeting 2) each spring with:
- Each elementary, middle, and high school in the county among parents and teachers, and
- A group of county-wide stakeholders including, but not limited to: local politicians, policymakers, county health officials, school district officials, law enforcement, criminal and juvenile justice representatives, etc.
- NOTE: Each meeting should include extensive advertising activity prior to each meeting (i.e. print, radio, TV, school messaging systems, social media, and others) and actively reduce barriers to participant attendance (i.e. provision of childcare, food, transportation, etc.).
- Conduct social marketing campaigns designed to share the ICE findings and community goals throughout the community and measure effectiveness through numbers of community members reached, social media analytics, informal feedback, etc.
- Conduct monthly local prevention coalition/task force group meetings in which prevention activities are planned and coordinated.
- Plan and implement prevention activities established by the local prevention coalition/task force group and through the community goal setting process, as outlined by WVPRC [West Virginia Prevention Research Center].
- Work with local agencies and policy makers to align community policy, practice, and funding to meet prevention goals.
- Maintain a local coalition committed to advancing opioid prevention activities, including sustaining and growing support for the Iceland Model project.
- Participate in the WVPRC’s Community Partnership Board and the PRC project’s Research-to-Practice Advisory Council.
- Additionally, identify a coalition member to represent your community at the WVPRC’s Community Partnership Board and the WVPRC project’s Research-to-Practice Advisory Council.
- Complete and submit timely reports as required by WVPRC including an annual report, which shall be included in the progress report of the continuation application.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications required for the Position: Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, human resources, mental health, social work, or other human services field and two years’ experience in planning, developing, or implementing substance use prevention programs – or relevant experience.

Skills and Knowledge Required for the Position:
- Good knowledge of the nature of substance use and the techniques used in establishing effective prevention programs.
- Good knowledge of community coalition principles and partnership development.
- Ability to plan, organize, implement, coordinate, and evaluate prevention programs.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with individuals, schools, community-based organizations, businesses, faith-based organizations, and other local agencies.
- Ability to comprehend and follow federal grant guidelines.
- Ability to communicate effectively, work independently, and use computer applications.
Amount of Travel: Local, statewide, and regional occasionally required.
Salary: Dependent upon experience; Full-time position; 40 hours/week.
